Arabic Classes in Arabic: The Most Effective Way to Truly Learn

Choosing to take Arabic classes entirely in Arabic is a proven way to get real results from day one—and it gives you a solid and lasting foundation. This method, based on full immersion in the language you’re learning, helps you to connect more deeply with Arabic without relying on translations or explanations in another language.

Many students wonder if it’s possible to learn Arabic without the teacher speaking their native language. Some even feel a bit uncertain when everything is taught in Arabic from the very first class, but while this method can be challenging at the beginning, it brings powerful results in the medium and long term.

Did you know?
In Islamic universities in Saudi Arabia, classes are taught only in Arabic—even for international students. There are no separate groups based on their different languages. Everyone begins from zero, learning Arabic in Arabic, and this allows them to progress quickly and deeply.

Benefits of Total Immersion:

When you study Arabic grammar or vocabulary using another language as a bridge, your brain tends to compare structures and translate concepts—which can slow down your learning, but Arabic-in-Arabic classes train your mind to think directly in the language and to form strong and lasting connections.

Key terms like تنوين, مجرور, or منصوب are difficult to translate accurately and learning them in context, in their original language, leads to a more natural and deeper understanding.

How to Adapt to This Approach from Day One:

Try to get used to having your Arabic classes fully in Arabic right from the start. Let go of constant translation and immerse yourself in the language. It may feel overwhelming at first, but your comprehension will grow quickly, in shaa Allah, and your foundation will be much stronger than with other methods.

📌 Note:
The best way to learn Arabic and/or Qur’an is through personalized classes with a qualified teacher.

How to Start Reading the Qur’an if You Already Know the Arabic Letters

Arabic Letters: I’ve Learned Them, What’s the Next Step?

If you’ve already learned the Arabic letters, you’re ready to take the next step: reading the Qur’an. Congratulations! This is an exciting and very special moment. It might seem challenging at first, but with a simple method and a little patience, you’ll soon be reading your first words from the Book of Allah, in shaa Allah.

Start by recognizing the Arabic letters in the Qur’an.

Open the Qur’an to the first ayah (verse) of Surah Al-Faatihah. Look closely at the first word. Do you recognize any of those shapes? They are the Arabic letters you learned. Take your time and name them one by one, without rushing. This exercise helps you connect your previous learning with actual reading.

Break the word into syllables.

Now, mentally divide the word into syllables. This step will make pronunciation easier and help your mind focus on one part at a time.

Example:

ال – حَمْ – دُ – لِلَّه

Pronounce each syllable slowly. Listen to yourself. Repeat as many times as you need. This step is not just technical — it’s spiritual. You are giving voice to the letters of the Qur’an.

Blend the syllables smoothly.

Once you’re comfortable with the syllables separately, group them into two blocks:

الْحَمْدُ
لِلَّه

Read them first individually, and then together as one phrase: “الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه”. You did it! It might not sound perfect yet, but what matters most is that you did it with sincerity and dedication.

Thank Allah and keep moving forward with your reading.

This first step is only the beginning. You’ve just read your first word from the Qur’an using your knowledge of the Arabic letters. Thank Allah for making this moment easy for you. Celebrate this achievement, no matter how small it may seem, and then move on to the next word, and then another.

With this method, you can read one or two verses a day, and within less than a week, you could complete Surah Al-Faatihah, in shaa Allah. Most importantly: Enjoy the journey. Every letter you read deepens your connection with the Qur’an.
